Biography: Léon Blum was a French socialist that served as Prime Minister of France three times: 1936 to 1937, 1938, and 1946 to 1947. During World War II, Blum opposed the Vichy government which took over following the German invasion. This led to his imprisonment in Buchenwald concentration camp.
After surviving Buchenwald, Blum returned to French politics. He would serve as Prime Minister again during the post war government which provided for the transition from Vichy France to the Fourth Republic.
