The Rings of Power, the new J.R.R. Tolkien series that premieres on Prime Video Sept. 1, takes place during the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before the events of Lord of the Rings. It begins after Sauron’s master, the evil lord Morgoth, is defeated.
