Profession: Children's Writer
Biography: Enid Blyton is one of the world's best-selling authors and published over 600 tittles during her lifetime. She published her first book in 1922 and went on to create such famous series as Noddy, The Famous Five and The Secret Seven. At her peak, in the early 1950s, Blyton produced over 50 books a year.
Blyton's books presented an idealized view of childhood, usually set in the English countryside with a moral undertone and a quick free-flowing narrative.
Known for his novella that inspired the Academy Award-winning film Arrival, Ted Chiang is among those writers who masterfully confront the anxieties of modern life through tales of technology and science, inspiring us to reconsider reality. In his latest collection, nine stories of refined, accessible prose prove both poignant and disturbing as Chiang reaches into subject matter like artificial intelligence and time travel. The longest story in Exhalation, “The Lifecycle of Software Objects,” best exemplifies Chiang’s sneakily unnerving ability to foreshadow dark futures, as his characters care for digital pets who become uncomfortably life-like.

Under one name or another, Greek rightists and leftists have long fought each other. But in 1942 two mutually suspicious Greek guerrilla detachments—one made up of E.D.E.S. nationalists and the other of E.L.A.S. Communists—joined forces long enough to give protective cover to a British demolition team that blew up a railway bridge at Gorgopotamos, 130 miles from Athens, thus halting supplies intended for transshipment to Rommel’s Afrika Korps in Libya.
According to a study from waterFilterGuru.com, reusable water bottles have an average of 20.8 million colony-forming units (CFUs) of bacteria, which is 40,000 times more than the microbes on a toilet seat. Bacteria live on almost every surface, and they can be found on water bottles. Water bottles must be cleaned and sanitized regularly to prevent the formation of bacteria and mould. Regular usage without proper cleaning can encourage the growth of germs that become lodged in the bottle.
