Biography: Kenneth Branagh is a British actor, director, producer and screenwriter. He is best known for his film adaptations of William Shakespeare's plays, as well as his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe having directed Thor (2011).
Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Branagh developed an early interest in theatre and began performing in school productions. He attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and made his professional stage debut in 1980.
Branagh achieved international fame with his 1989 film adaptation of Henry V. His other Shakespeare adaptations include Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, and As You Like It. He has also directed several non-Shakespearean films, such as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Sleuth, and Thor. In addition, Branagh has acted in a wide variety of films, including Alien: Resurrection, Wild Wild West, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
In recent years, Branagh has moved into producing and has been involved in several productions for both stage and screen. His accolades include five BAFTA Awards, two Emmy Awards, and a Golden Globe Award. He was appointed a Knight Bachelor in the 2012 New Year Honours for services to drama and to the community in Northern Ireland.
